I am a sucker for any book about dogs – especially those who have “saved” their humans! In this diary of sorts, Miranda, a comedienne whose voice rings out from the page as if in spoken word, invites us to share how Peggy came into her life and saved her. Peggy helped her through dark times, lonely times, embarrassing times, stressful times and, of course, happiest of happy times. And, given Miranda’s sharp wit and clarity of observation of the human psyche, the story feels uplifting even though she shares her own depressing and intimate issues that she has battled through. The book is littered with cute illustrations of Peggy, sketched by Miranda’s friend Jenny. If ever a dog companion comes to life on the page, it is in Peggy and Me.
